Hi, Lena. From RT: "India has never depended on permission from any country to buy Russian oil,” the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) said, as quoted by NDTV. The statement added that New Delhi would not be relying on “a short-term waiver” for such purchases. Neither had it been affected by previous US attempts to make it abandon Russian energy imports, the statement said. “India is still importing Russian oil even [through] February 2026, and Russia is still India’s largest crude oil supplier,” the PIB said.
On a different note, I see Putin is not inclined to alleviate Europe's energy pain. Who can blame him? Europe already said they would phase out Russian energy, and they are now the main military suppliers of Ukraine. Hey, Europe, brilliant moves! Now your deindustrialization will happen even faster. Are you winning yet?
You state that "decoupling from cost-effective Russian energy is simply a dream that is very much detached from reality." Wouldn't Western government agree? Putting aside any debate about its merit, the aim of the Western post-2022 policy was to reduce Europe's dependence on Russian exports, lower Russian oil revenues, and avoid a global supply shock. India was never prevented from buying Russian oil, only restricted from Western-based tanker insurance, shipping services, and financing in scenarios where oil is sold below the G7 price cap. The one-month delay you describe is a technical adjustment, not a strategic reversal.

No obvious change in Canada yet. This might improve profits for exported petroleum products.
